About Recovery Cypher

Recovery • Culture • Community

Where Recovery Meets the Culture.

Recovery Cypher is a hip-hop podcast and healing platform featuring artists and cultural figures who have spoken openly about their recovery from substance or alcohol use disorders.

Through honest conversations, guests share their experiences and struggles, healing, creativity, change, and personal growth. The focus is not only on what they survived, but also on how recovery has shaped their music, purpose, relationships, and lives.

Hip hop has always given voice to pain, resilience, resistance, and transformation. Recovery Cypher brings those elements into the same circle, creating space for conversations that are real, culturally grounded, and free from shame and judgement.

The platform also helps make visible an often-overlooked population: people living in recovery, many for years or decades, and whose stories are rarely recognized. They are part of what founder Gil Cintrón calls the Invisible Cohort.

Recovery Cypher was created by Hip Hop Culture NYC, LLC. as a place where hip hop and healing meet—and where every story adds something meaningful to the cypher.
